Why Social
Networks Changes are Mood’s too Quick
You have the ability to tell everyone every single
thought that ever pops into your head. And then, like magic, you get the
instant gratification of comments, or of people “liking” what you do, or of
people arguing with you over your taste in music. Hooray?
Well,
however you feel about social media, it’s out there, and you should feel free
to post as little or as much as you’d like. However, you’ll need to be savvy
about the kinds of things you’re posting. Here are some classic social network
blunders you should steer clear of…
Oversharing: while not the
most terrible of all offenses, over-sharing can often make people
uncomfortable. It can also lead to people knowing things about you that you
wish they didn’t. So, before posting about your raging bladder infection, first
consider all of the people who will read about it, now and in the future – and
then decide if you really want to share.
Posting Provocative Picture: I
know you’re a hottie with a body and you want the world to know it. But you
just shouldn’t post pictures of you doing anything you don’t want the world to
see. You may think your privacy settings stop those photos from being seen by
your grandma, but understand that anything you ever put online might possibly
make it to other websites that you don’t have any control over.
Posting Iiicit Behavior: in
case it needs to be said, don’t to drugs. Don’t drink if you’re underage. That
picture to Zack taking a bong rip at Becca’s party is not going to do you any
favors out in the world. And if you’re of legal age, wasted picture are rarely
a good idea. One day you’re in college, doing body shots and yelling, “wooo!”
and the next you’ve got a job as a middle school teacher and one of your
students is sharing that photo whit his friends. That story rarely ends well.
So bear that in mind, because the past has a way of sticking around.
Righting a Perceived Wrong (Or Mourning a
Break-Up): you’re allowed to feel all the horrible things
you’re feeling when a relationship is over. However, that doesn’t mean you should
use the internet to talk smack about your ex. It’s never pretty, even if he or
she really did do something terrible.
